The highlight of my week? I just opened a heavy parcel and yelped in delight at what lay inside: an advance peek at Passing Fancies!
After years of existing only in my head and then in digital manuscript form, Passing Fancies is now in print! It’s impossible to describe the feeling of finding a box on my doorstep that, sure enough, opened to reveal the stunning sight of the first advance copies of my second Julia Kydd novel. Like Relative Fortunes, it’s set in Manhattan in the 1920s, that lively era of heady modernism and its darker underside of greed and bigotry.
The books aren’t quite the real thing, though. They’re what’s known as Advance Reader’s Copies or ARCs, which are printed and bound before final proofreading and typically sent to reviews, bloggers, and other media influencers in hopes of snaring enthusiastic attention before the book is officially published.
So these books have work yet to do, but for now I’ll bask in their beautiful glory and share the happy moment. It’s the perfect occasion to declare my profound gratitude to Lake Union Publishing, the “book club fiction” imprint of Amazon Publishing, for bringing the Julia Kydd novels so elegantly into the world. Both of my Jazz Age historical mysteries, Relative Fortunes and now Passing Fancies, have benefited from Lake Union’s impeccable editorial, design, and marketing support.
